Confirm the exact firearm
Write down the make, model, caliber or gauge, and serial number from the firearm and compare them with the seller’s description. Ask what is included, whether original parts are present, and whether the firearm has been modified, repaired or stored for a long time. Do not rely on a blurry listing photo or a partial model name.
Inspect carefully and safely
Have the seller demonstrate that the firearm is unloaded and follow safe handling rules throughout. Look for obvious corrosion, cracks, damaged sights, missing parts or signs of poor modification. A quick visual check cannot establish internal condition. If you are not experienced, ask a qualified gunsmith to inspect it before use, especially when the history is unknown.
Check whether the firearm fits your intended use and whether magazines, parts and service support are available. If you are new to the platform, compare it with a current example or ask someone qualified to explain the controls. Do not buy ammunition until you have confirmed the exact chambering and the manufacturer’s guidance.
Understand the transfer
If you buy from a licensed dealer, expect the standard dealer paperwork and background-check process, subject to applicable exceptions. If buying from a private person, federal and Arizona laws still matter. Federal law prohibits transfers to people the seller knows or has reasonable cause to believe are prohibited, and interstate transfers generally have to go through an FFL in the buyer’s state. Arizona statutes define private parties and prohibit certain transfers involving prohibited possessors. Check the current law for your specific transaction.
For a private sale, you can choose to use an FFL to help with the transfer. For a dealer purchase or an online order shipped to Coldbore, see Arizona FFL transfers and the pickup checklist. Browse current handguns, rifles or shotguns to compare what a new example costs.
I keep the explanation simple, but these are the official references I use when I want to check the details:

If you have a model or product link in mind, send it over. I can help confirm we are looking at the same item and point you to the right next step.
