So what is an FFL transfer?
An FFL transfer is the process of having a firearm sent to a federally licensed dealer so the required paperwork and background-check process can be completed before you take possession of it.
Maybe you found a handgun, rifle, or shotgun online that you want. Instead of having it shipped directly to you, the seller sends it to an FFL like Coldbore Firearms. Once it gets here, I handle the dealer side of the transfer with you.
How it usually works
You buy the firearm from the seller and choose Coldbore Firearms as the receiving FFL. The seller gets the information they need, ships the firearm to me, and I let you know after I have received it and checked it in.
Then we set up a time for you to come in, complete the required paperwork, and go through the required background-check process. Once everything is cleared and the transfer can legally be completed, you can take your firearm home.
No secret handshake. No need to know every form before you show up. I will tell you what you need to do when you get here.
Should you contact me before ordering?
Yes. I always recommend sending me a message before you place the order.
That gives me a heads-up that something is coming, lets us make sure the seller has the right FFL information, and gives you a chance to ask questions before money starts moving around. A quick conversation beforehand can save a lot of back-and-forth later.
What happens when the firearm arrives?
I verify what came in, receive it into my records, and contact you when it is ready for the transfer.
One thing worth knowing: a shipping tracker saying “delivered” does not always mean the firearm is ready for pickup that minute. I still need a little time to receive it properly. Once it is ready, I will let you know.
What if the background check takes longer?
Sometimes the response comes back quickly and sometimes it takes longer. A delay by itself does not automatically mean something is wrong.
If that happens, I will explain what I can and let you know the next step. I cannot skip the required process, but I can keep the conversation simple and tell you what is happening.
Need a transfer in Florence?
If you are in Florence or nearby and you are thinking about ordering a firearm, contact me first. Tell me what you are looking at and where it is coming from, and I will help you get pointed in the right direction.
I keep these guides simple on purpose. If you want to read the federal information directly, these are the sources I use:
Just ask me.
If you are not sure what applies to your situation, send me a message before you make the trip. I would rather answer a quick question than have you guessing.
